AS Monaco’s Teen Player Killed in Minibus Crash

In the early hours of Sunday, May 11, 2025, a devastating road accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old AS Monaco basketball player Lorenzo Renou, and left several others injured.

The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on the A8 motorway near Le Cannet-des-Maures, as a minibus carrying members of the clubโ€™s National 3 team was returning from an away game against Terres Froides.

The young athlete, a standout talent from AS Monacoโ€™s youth training center and a student at Monacoโ€™s Lycรฉe Albert Ier in a specialized sports program, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A 24-year-old teammate was airlifted in critical condition to Sainte-Anne Hospital in Toulon, while four others sustained less severe injuries. ๏ฟผ ๏ฟผ

AS Monaco Basketball expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the victimโ€™s family and support to the injured. The wider Monegasque sports community, including AS Monaco Football and the Monaco Basket Associationโ€™s womenโ€™s team, shared public messages of solidarity in response to the tragedy. ๏ฟผ

A minute of silence was observed at the Salle Gaston Mรฉdecin ahead of Sunday eveningโ€™s BetClic Elite match between AS Monacoโ€™s Roca Team and Bourg-en-Bresse, honoring the memory of the young player. ๏ฟผ

The entire Principality mourns the loss of a promising young athlete whose dedication and talent left an indelible mark on those around him.
