Fontvieille Shopping Centre: An Ambitious Project Serving Monegasques and Residents

The Princely Government is undertaking an ambitious redevelopment project for the Fontvieille Shopping Centre, a key public facility in the Principality.

This project, designed to modernize the site and enhance its appeal, involves various State departments under the coordination of the Department of Finance and Economy, in close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. The objective is to meet the expectations of Monegasques and residents by offering a diverse range of shops, local services, as well as varied leisure and dining options.

Due to its complexity—balancing daily operations, accessibility and safety requirements, and a dense and ever-evolving commercial environment—the project calls for meticulous preparation, impact anticipation, and constructive dialogue with merchants and users.

An initial information meeting was held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, with the current retailers operating within the shopping centre. This series of meetings will continue throughout the duration of the project, with dedicated contacts providing personalized follow-up.

In parallel with the restructuring project, the Government continues to ensure the centre remains functional and welcoming:

  • €8 million has been invested since 2019, including €5 million for travelator and footbridge replacements scheduled for 2026,
  • An additional €2 million has been proposed to immediately improve the comfort and aesthetics of the premises,
  • An increased annual operating budget to ensure safety, cleanliness, and business continuity,
  • Ongoing commercial promotions, supported by an increased subsidy to the Joint Economic Group (GIE).

The Government remains fully committed, through its departments, to managing this complex project with rigor, consistency, and high standards—in a spirit of dialogue and responsibility—for the benefit of Fontvieille’s attractiveness, its users, its businesses, and the wider local community.
